MOTABILITY HELP CENTRE
Check out everything you need to know about Motability by exploring our frequently asked questions.
Do I need to spend my full Motability allowance to get a Vauxhall car on the Motability Scheme?
No, you do not need to spend your full Motability allowance. We have some Fixed Weekly Rental models available that cost less than your weekly allowance. Please see our offers and prices for more detail.
What does 'Nil Advance Payment' mean?
'Nil Advance Payment' means there is no additional payment required to lease your chosen vehicle over the lease period. Instead, you simply exchange all of your weekly mobility allowance - and that's it.
We work hard to ensure our range includes 'Nil Advance Payment' models that are perfect for helping you get mobile. Please see our Cars, Prices and Offers page for more information.
What if I'd like to pay for optional extras with my own money?
No problem - we know our disability allowance customers have different needs and preferences. Our vehicles already have a high level of specification, however, should you require optional equipment then this would be an additional cost funded by you. Optional extras must be clearly specified at point of order.
To discuss options and prices or to arrange a test drive, please speak to your local Vauxhall Retailer.
Is an advance payment a deposit I'll get back later?
If the Vauxhall car you choose requires an advance payment, this will need to be paid for out of your own money. The advance payment is a non-refundable payment and is fixed at the figure quoted when ordering your car.
Your Retailer may require you to pay a holding deposit when ordering your new Vauxhall. But don't worry, this will be deducted from your advance payment when you collect the car.
When do I have to pay my Advance Payment?
Normally, your advance payment is either paid when you first order your vehicle or on the day you collect your vehicle. Your Vauxhall Retailer will be able to confirm this with you.
Can I trade in my privately owned car?
If you are new to Vauxhall Motability and no longer need your privately owned car, we recommend speaking to your local Vauxhall Retailer about trading this in. If you choose a model which requires an advance payment, you may be able to trade your car in against the advance.
Do I need to pay for my car to be serviced?
No, your Motability lease package covers the cost of your car's service, plus maintenance repairs for the wear and tear of your vehicle. It also includes insurance, tyre repair and replacement, windscreen repair and a 60,000 mileage allowance over the three years.
Will I get a courtesy vehicle just like mine while my car is being serviced?
This will depend on the current vehicle you drive, but unfortunately our Retailers cannot always guarantee this. If you provide your Retailer with three weeks' notice when you book the service, they will be able to give you a standard courtesy car which may still meet your requirements. If the courtesy car is not suitable however, we recommend contacting Motability directly to make other arrangements.
Will I have to pay for insurance as a disabled driver?
Your Motability package includes insurance and personal accident cover for up to two named drivers, plus insurance cover for driving abroad. It also includes your vehicle’s MOT, road tax and full breakdown assistance.
How can I get started with choosing the right car for my disability?
Each of our car model pages highlight relevant features for Motability customers and the standard equipment available across each trim level. These pages also provide accessibility content and vehicle measurements, such as boot width and height, helping you to determine which car is most suitable.

Will it cost extra to have my car adapted for my disability?
Your Motability lease package covers the cost of many different vehicle adaptations - details of some of these can be found on our adaptations page.
We advise speaking with your local Vauxhall Retailer who will be happy to discuss your adaptation requirements further with you.
Can I test-drive an adapted car?
Yes. We understand the thought of driving an adapted car for the first time can be worrying. For more information on how and where to test-drive an adapted Vauxhall car, please visit our adaptations page.
How do I know which car adaptations are suitable for my disability?
Your local Retailer will be able to point you in the direction of a Motability approved adaptations partner, who can advise you on the most suitable adaptation for your disability. For a quick understanding of some of the adaptations available, please visit our adaptations page.
How do I know if I qualify for Motability?
To qualify for the Motability Scheme, you (or the person you care for - which could be your child or parent) must be in receipt of the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance, the Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of the Personal Independence Payment, the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement or the Armed Forces Independent Payment. For more information, please visit our 'What is Motability?' page.
If you are yet to receive a copy of your award notice which outlines your allowance entitlement or feel you are eligible to receive mobility allowance but currently are not, we recommend contacting the Department of Work and Pensions for their help and support.
Do I need to drive to be eligible for the Motability Scheme?
No, many Motability customers are passengers as they are either too young or unable to drive.
You can assign up to two named drivers on your insurance. This could be your family members, friends or carers, but they must only use the car for your benefit only.
Does the Motability customer always need to be in the car?
No, not always. The Motability car can be used by, or for the benefit of, the disabled person. This means that the disabled person does not always need to be in the car for every journey taken. For example, named drivers of the vehicle are allowed to use the car for shopping or running other errands as long as it is benefitting the disabled customer.
I no longer qualify for the Motability Scheme. What should I do now?
You may have lost your mobility allowance or been moved to a different rate through PIP reassessments. If you're no longer eligible for Motability and need to return your car, please get in touch with your local Retailer who will be able to support you through this.
They will also be happy to discuss other options with you for leasing or buying a Vauxhall outside the Scheme, should you want to do this.
How do I know if my choice of car is available?
Your local Vauxhall Retailer will be able to confirm if your chosen car is already in stock or needs to be ordered.
How do I order my first Motability car?
Once you're ready to order, it's simple - just contact the Motability Specialist at your local Vauxhall Retailer to arrange an appointment. You'll need to bring the following things when you meet:
- Your driving licence, if you wish to drive.
- Certificate of entitlement from either the Department of Work and Pensions or Veterans UK.
- Proof of address (e.g. recent utility bill or bank statement).
- The driving licences of your named drivers, and consent for their details to be checked against the DVLA's driver licence database. (If your named driver or drivers cannot come with you when ordering your car, they must complete a Driver Declaration Form beforehand).
- Details of any previous accidents and driving convictions that you or your named drivers have.
You (the Motability customer) should be there to place the order yourself, unless you have a legal appointee to represent you.
How long will it take for my vehicle to be delivered?
For the latest information on your delivery date, we recommend contacting your local Vauxhall Retailer directly. All Retailer contact information can be found by using our Find a Retailer tool.
I'm under 25. Are there any restrictions I should be aware of?
Drivers under 25 are restricted to cars with an ABI Insurance Group 16 or lower and with a power output of 120 brake horse power (BHP) or less. Note: This does not apply to wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
In addition, only one named driver under 21 is allowed on the insurance.
This is why it's important to consider, when choosing your car, if any of your named drivers will be aged under 25 during your lease, as this may affect the choice of cars available to you.
Can I return my Motability car early?
When signing the lease agreement, you agree to leasing your Motability vehicle for the full period. However, Motability understand there may be circumstances that require you to cancel your agreement and return your car early. If there is a valid reason for this, for example, the car is no longer suitable for your mobility needs, we advise contacting the Motability Customer Services Team on 0300 456 4566 who will be able to help.
